Problem Statement
I wanted to figure out what a 3D smart home experience could look like and how it could boost user engagement with the Alexa app. The goal was to create something that would help not just today’s users with lots of smart devices but also anticipate what future users might need. This meant tackling the pain points of managing complex smart home setups and making sure the new feature would really enhance user satisfaction.
I led the design for a new Map View feature in the Alexa app to make managing smart home routines better for users. I dove into researching 3D smart home mapping and ended up designing and proposing this new feature.
Reflection
The biggest challenge was navigating the ambiguity and proposing innovative features in a complex environment. I drew on my background in psychology and spatial memory research to guide the design process. This project shoId me how crucial it is to align expectations with engineering and product teams. By understanding their constraints and goals, I was able to set realistic expectations and create a feature that really delivers.
